Thin-Film Batteries – When Space and Shape Matter

At ACTEC, we work with thin-film batteries that combine ultra-lightweight design and flexibility with high voltage output. This makes them an ideal solution for modern, compact products where there’s no room for compromise. Especially in disposable applications such as medical patches, cosmetic devices, wearable electronics, and RFID tags, this technology proves its full potential.

Thin-film batteries differ significantly from traditional battery types. They are extremely thin – down to just 0.38 mm – and can be shaped and adapted to even the most complex and curved product designs. At the same time, they are developed with a strong focus on safety and sustainability: free of heavy metals, non-flammable, and non-explosive. They operate reliably in temperatures from -20°C to +60°C and offer long shelf life – with a self-discharge of less than 30% over two years.

With a nominal voltage of 3V and capacities up to 60 mAh, thin-film batteries are particularly suited for low-power products where weight and space are critical parameters.

There are many areas of application. We often see them used in disposable medical devices such as patches and monitoring units for temperature, pulse, and ECG. They’re also used in cosmetic applications, cold chain monitoring, smart cards, semi-active RFID tags, and various types of wearable electronics – all environments where compact size and flexibility make a real difference.

At ACTEC, we don’t just supply the batteries – we also provide expert guidance on how best to integrate them into your product. We help tailor the shape, size, and capacity to match the specific power consumption, desired lifespan, and physical constraints of your design.
