A large number of suppliers, business partners and the press were in attendance at the naming ceremony for the first flexible eco-barge in the world, which took place at the Port of Søby on the island of Ærø on 22 June 2022.
The start-up company responsible for this innovation is called FLEX-FEB ApS. The company was founded and is owned by two enthusiasts, Jens Walther and Erik Schmidt, who had both been looking forward to the day when the eco-barge – the Jenny Miljø – would be named.
As the supplier of batteries for the eco-barge, it was only natural that ACTEC A/S was invited to attend this special event. ACTEC has been following the development of the barge with great interest, and the fact that FLEX-FEB has now finally passed a major milestone with such an excellent result comes as no surprise.
Morten Nyborg, Product Manager and co-owner of ACTEC, states:
“Ever since Jens Walther first contacted us to present the idea back in the spring of 2021, we were never in doubt that FLEX-FEB would achieve its goal of building an eco-barge. Jens has radiated enthusiasm and ambition throughout the process, and with the eco-barge he seeks to address the environmental problems at sea in a far more sustainable and competitive manner than has traditionally been the case. Our contribution of LiFePO4 batteries aligns well with the visions and the modern approach of the people at FLEX-FEB. We congratulate them on their naming ceremony and look forward to seeing what the future holds.”

A lot of the equipment, such as skimmers, propulsion motors, sensors and controls, is electrically powered. This requires, among other things, a large battery capacity, which is why the eco-barge is equipped with four powerful LiFePO4 batteries from ACTEC’s own popular battery manufacturer, PaqPOWER.
PaqPOWER LiFePO4 batteries from ACTEC A/S are installed in the eco-barge.
The purpose of the eco-barge
The flexible eco-barge is designed to clean up harbours and stretches of coastline. In a single workflow, the barge can collect oil-contaminated water, other sources of contamination and surface waste – such as plastic and seaweed – and filter them from the water. The cleansed water is then discharged back into the sea.
In this way, the eco-barge seeks to address several of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in terms of securing clean water generally and also safeguarding habitats and well-functioning biodiversity in marine and coastal areas.
