New unique way of fishing requires advanced batteries

Every fisherman knows the challenges of placing the trawl exactly right. It's not just about optimizing the catch.

Today, there is just as much focus on saving fuel, reducing CO2 and protecting the flora of the seabed. But so far it has been almost impossible to control all parameters manually.

Now a Danish company has developed a new unique control system that makes it possible to gain full control of the trawl blades from the skipper's PC in the wheelhouse.

From here he can wirelessly increase the trawl's play, spread, height and depth. The system has a range of up to 2000 meters.

The solution is completely dependent on a battery solution that meets very specific requirements. To make it a success, it requires a stable and intelligent battery solution. It is against this background that ACTEC has developed and delivered the 2kWh battery pack, which supplies the flap system with power

The requirements were stable operation, easy monitoring of the battery pack via the built-in BMS system, the possibility of strong current to 10A and long life up to 10 years of design life on the cells.

The battery design uses Panasonic battery technology with a total of 168 Li-Ion battery cells, which are often used to assemble battery packs for demanding industrial solutions. Here designed in 14 blocks with 12 cells in parallel, which are mounted in a cylindrical container.

The finished battery pack fully meets the slightly extreme requirements deep below the sea surface. But most important of all, the battery solution is the very prerequisite for the exciting new control system to work and ensure both greater catches, environmental benefits and fuel savings.
